An introduction to Eco-Construction
Our World is changing and we must too. The building process is a large generator of pollutants; during the manufacture of building materials, their transportation, their erection and the disposal of resulting waste.
We at SH Construcciones understand that the pollution generated during the construction process and in the use of a building during it’s life can be greatly reduced by the use of eco-friendly materials. This means choosing low carbon materials from the beginning of the design process through to completion, minimising pollution and disposing of any waste in the most environmentally friendly way.
The choice of materials affects both the design, detail and construction requirements of a building as well as its performance in terms of comfort, maintenance, heating and cooling costs during the structure's lifetime.
Construction norms in Spain lag behind many developed countries with respect to energy efficiency and there is a great inertia against change. People who live in Spanish buildings complain of very poor acoustic and thermal insulation and poor materials and construction details. Reinforced concrete and hollow clay bricks are the norm.
We believe there are better ways of building and that the materials and construction details that are common in Spain need to be improved.
Furthermore, there are many existing buildings that can be improved both acoustically and thermally to provide better comfort.
With the above in mind we aim to provide a service to clients that will result in an improved building both in its content and use.
