Hayfield

A two storey front extension was built creating an additional bedroom and access to the rear with a new hallway. A new kitchen was included.

The products available for the construction of a building are numerous and those chosen need a balanced approach to achieve the appearance required and fulfil the criteria in the sections above (Environment, Eco-Construction etc.)
When renovating a building, the existing building’s appearance, construction materials and details, desired improvements, ease of installation, cost etc will all need to be balanced with the products to achieve a satisfactory outcome.

Products

New products are being developed constantly. We keep up with developments, but balance the choice of product considering all factors including the use of locally sourced products where feasible.

Below are listed some of the products we prefer to use and their benefits.

CLS

Canadian Lumber Standard timber produced from managed forests, graded for structural use, exacting standards of straightness and dimensional accuracy.

OSB

Oriented Strand Board, an alternative to water resistant plywood manufactured from wood strands bonded together with resin glues.

Eco Joists

Engineered highly accurate and strong joists formed with timber flanges and pressed steel diagonal struts. Benefits include flat ceilings and floors, large spans, light handling, minimum use of materials, ease of services installation.

Glulam Beams

These are beams made to any length from resin bonded timber strands or sections and are a timber alternative to steel or concrete.

Renderlath

A purpose made three layer mesh system consisting of a backing plastic sheet with slow moisture release paper layer behind the mesh wires

Weber Pral Eco Clima

A dry mix pre-coloured lime based mortar. Benefits include water resistance, low contraction and no painting low maintenance.

TRUSSES

These are structural timber frameworks with pressed steel connections. They are light and strong, can form any roof angle and incorporate space in a roof if required and can be erected quickly on site. Only infill hips and valleys need to be cut and fitted on site

Apollo Ecobrite

A low emissivity, high reflection foil developed by NASA for space projects. Benefits include additional heat reflection and retention, air tightness.

COBERT Roof Tiles

These dry concrete roof tiles are supported on treated battens and do not need to be bedded in mortar as is required for pantile systems.
